The Exhibition / Selection of works

Six months after the publication of the two special issues on the Transhumanist philosophical movement by Re-public, we are proposing to deepen this reflection through the organization of an international exhibition of artworks realized by artists expressing themselves on the same subject.

At this end, we set a selection committee of eight persons which, since June, 2009, oversees the preparations for the exhibition. The committee will select the artworks that will be presented in the online exhibition “Devenir Humain: The Art of Human Enhancement”.

The composition of the committee is the following:

- Marion Duquerroy, PhD student (history of art) and lecturer, university Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne
- Olivier Goulet, transmedia artist, creator and manager of SkinBag
- Stéphane Gounari, secretary of the Association Française Transhumaniste : Technoprog! (AFT)
- Pavlos Hatzopoulos, Re-public
- Dr. Miriam Ji Sun, Foresight Researcher – emerging technologies and the future of humanity / Chair: De:Trans – German Transhumanist Association.
- Thanasis Priftis, Re-public
- Marc Roux, teacher, chairman of the Association Française Transhumaniste : Technoprog! (AFT)
- Natasha Vita-More, Theorist and Media Artist. PhD Fellow, Planetary Collegium, University of Plymouth; Visiting Scholar, 21st Century Medicine; Fellow, IEET; Advisor, Singularity University; Fellow, Advisor, Alcor Life Foundation. Author, Transhuman Manifesto

This committee, has worked for several months to discern the criteria which will allow us to select the works that seem the most appropriate for reflecting on the problematic of Transhumanism.

Our task also consists in proposing the final elaboration of the website where the exhibition will be held.

Considering the speed in which the technology evolves and with which it transforms the human being and the society, the distribution of the reflection on the questions carried by the transhumanist movement seems to us essential.

L’exposition / Sélection d’œuvres

Six mois après les deux numéros consacrés par Re-public au mouvement philosophique du Transhumanisme, le journal en ligne s’est proposé d’approfondir la réflexion à travers l’organisation d’une exposition internationale d’œuvres d’art réalisées par des artistes s’exprimant sur le même sujet.

A cette fin, nous avons réuni un comité de sélection de huit personnes qui, depuis juin 2009, supervise les travaux de préparation de l’exposition “Devenir Humain: The Art of Human Enhancement”.

La composition du comité est la suivante :

Avec ce comité, nous travaillons depuis plusieurs mois afin de faire émerger les critères qui nous permettront de sélectionner les œuvres qui nous sembleront les plus propre à véhiculer la problématique du Transhumanisme. Les membres du comité voient, comparent et discutent des dizaines d’œuvres de tout genre et sur tout support.

Notre tâche consiste également à proposer des tris, des regroupements, afin de préparer la phase d’élaboration finale du site qui recevra les œuvres.

Compte tenu de la vitesse à laquelle évolue la technologie et avec laquelle elle transforme l’humain et la société, la diffusion de la réflexion sur les questions portées par le mouvement transhumaniste nous paraît essentielle.

L’Art et le Design doivent avoir leur mot à dire …

Call for works – Devenir Humain? The Art of Human Enhancement

Following the publication of the special Issue «Transhumanism?», online journal Re-public calls for participations in order to create an online exhibition website for artworks of any kind (but adaptable to the internet like, but not limited to, pictures, videos, comics, caricatures, drawing, digitalized paintwork…)

The theme is “Transhumanism” in the widest sense. Participants, amateurs and professionals, are invited to illustrate, comment, think and make people think about this theme with total liberty.

Proposed artworks would ideally be original, created for this exhibition, but it’s possible to propose old ones.

The texts which accompany the artworks must be either in English, in Greek, or in French.

Artworks must be send via www.transhumanism.gr before the end of November 2009.

[Deadline for artworks extended to 31 December 2009]

An international selection committee, with artist, art professionals, and H+ thinkers will choose the artworks and will propose the structure of their online presentation.

This exhibition might become an ongoing website, which would become an international H+ art gallery.

Appel à participation

A la suite de son dossier spécial “Transhumanisme?“, le journal en ligne Re-public lance un appel afin de constituer sur le même thème un site d’exposition virtuelle d’œuvres artistiques visuelles de tout genre pouvant s’adapter au format numérique (photos, vidéo, BD, caricatures, dessins, peintures numérisées …).

Le thème est celui du Transhumanisme au sens le plus large. Les contributeurs, amateurs comme professionnels, sont invités à illustrer, à commenter, à réfléchir et à faire réfléchir dans ce champ d’interrogation en totale liberté.

Les œuvres proposées seront préférentiellement originales, mais il sera possible de présenter des réalisations anciennes.

Les commentaires accompagnants éventuellement les œuvres peuvent parvenir soit en anglais, soit en français, soit en grec.

Le projet du journal est de transposer à terme cet espace d’exposition Dans la Vie Réelle. Il serait alors complété par une exposition traditionnelle d’arts plastiques voire par des représentations d’expression théâtrale.

Les œuvres proposées sont à faire parvenir sur www.transhumanism.gr avant le 30 Novembre 2009, date limite.

Un comité de sélection international composé d’artistes, de professionnels du monde des arts et de spécialistes de la réflexion H+ choisira les œuvres qui seront finalement proposées lors de l’exposition et proposera une présentation articulant ces œuvres.

La base d’œuvres artistiques ainsi réunies pourrait donner naissance à un site évolutif, régulièrement mis à jour, qui deviendrait une véritable galerie internationale d’art H+ en ligne.

Κάλεσμα για συμμετοχές

Μετά τη δημοσίευση του αφιερώματος “Μετανθρωπισμός;”, το ηλεκτρονικό περιοδικό Re-public απευθύνει ανοικτή πρόσκληση συμμετοχής για την δημιουργία μιας ψηφιακής έκθεσης με το ίδιο θέμα. Ενδιαφερόμαστε για έργα οποιασδήποτε μορφής (που μπορούν όμως να παρουσιαστούν διαδικτυακά, όπως φωτογραφίες, βίντεο, κόμικς, σχέδια, ψηφιακή ζωγραφικά…)

Το θέμα της έκθεσης είναι ο “Μετανθρωπισμός” στην πιο πλατειά του έννοια. Οι συμμετέχοντες, ερασιτέχνες ή επαγγελματίες, καλούνται να απεικονίσουν, να σχολιάσουν, να σκεφτούν, και να καλέσουν τους θεατές να σκεφτούν τις προβληματικές της ανθρώπινης βελτίωσης με απόλυτη ελευθερία.

Τα προτεινόμενα έργα θα πρέπει ιδεατά να είναι πρωτότυπα, χωρίς αυτό να αποκλείει και τη συμμετοχή έργων που έχουν ήδη παρουσιαστεί στο παρελθόν – είτε σε εκθέσεις, είτε διαδικτυακά.

Τα κείμενα που θα συνοδεύουν τα έργα θα πρέπει να είναι γραμμένα είτε στα Αγγλικά, είτε στα Ελληνικά, η στα Γαλλικά.

Τα έργα θα πρέπει να αποσταλλούν μέσω της ιστοσελίδας www.transhumanism.gr έως τις 30 Νοεμβρίου 2009.

Μια διεθνής επιτροπή θα επιλέξει τα έργα που θα παρουσιαστούν στην έκθεση και θα πριοτείνη την τελική δομή της διαδικτυακής παρουσίασής της.

Αυτή η έκθεση μπορεί να εξελιχθεί σε μια δυναμική ιστοσελίδα που θα αποτελέσει μία γκαλερί έργων τέχνης σχετικών με τον Μετανθρωπισμό.

Η έκθεση / Eπιλογή των έργων

6 μήνες μετά την δημοσίευση των δύο αφιερωμάτων του Re-public για το φιλοσοφικό κίνημα του Μετανθρωπισμού, προτείνουμε την εμβάνθυση αυτής της συζήτησης με την διοργάνωση μιας διεθνούς έκθεσης τέχνης πάνω στο ίδιο θέμα.

Έχουμε σχηματίσει μία 8μελή επιτροπή επιλογής, η οποία από τον Ιούνιο του 2009 ασχολείται με την προετοιμασία της έκθεσης. Η επιτροπή θα κει την τελική επιλογή των έργων που θα παρουσιαστούν στην διαδικτυακή έκθεση “Devenir Humain: The Art of Human Enhancement”.

Στην επιτροπή συμμετέχουν οι:

Λαμβάνοντας υπόψιν την ταχύτητα εξέλιξης της τεχνολογίας και τους τρόπους με τους οποίους μεταμορφώνει το ανθρώπινο ον και τις κοινωνίες, η διάδοση της σκέψης και της συζήτησης γύρω από το κίνημα του μετανθρωπισμού μας φαίνεται απαραίτητη.
